What can I say; if you know me you know Jay-Z is my favorite rapper of all time. I could go on and on about why his music speaks to me, a Black girl from Omaha, NE of all places. I have been rockin’ with Jay since 96’ at the tender age of 11. At first it was the beats of his songs that drew me in but as I got older I listened to his words as well. The way he puts them together is amazing to me. To this day I can still listen to old Jay-Z songs and find a new nugget of genius to grab onto that I never realized before, like watching a movie over and over and finding a new joke or detail each time. To be able to go to this concert was a lifelong dream and something I got to check off my bucket list. I was super pumped the entire day; I couldn’t even concentrate at work. I wanted everything to be perfect, outfit, make-up, hair, eve
After sitting through the opening act, Trey Songz, I could hardly contain myself in anticipation. Finally at about 9:00pm he opened up with Run this Town, I went wild, stood up and sang every single song. After that song went off he immediately brought out a diehard Roc-a-Fella fan favorite, Memphis Bleek. It was good to see him on tour with Jay, since we haven’t heard from him in so long. Jay did a wide range of songs, his repertoire is so extensive I’m sure it’s difficult to come up with one 2 hour show but he did successfully. One thing I wasn’t a fan of was the Alicia Keys impersonator that came out during the Empire State of Mind performance; frankly I could’ve done without. Everyone screamed the heads off thinking Alicia Keys was there, but alas we were fooled, it was as if the entire crowd realized at the exact same time that they had been bamboozled. Although I didn’t appreciate the look alike, it was still true to Jay-Z form by putting someone else on. Can you imagine being an up and coming rapper or singer performing with one the greatest rappers that ever lived, epic! In the middle of his set Young Jeezy performed for about 20 minutes and he was better than I thought he’d be so that was an added bonus. The culminating moment for me was at the end when he says “This part of the show is for everyone that’s been rockin’ wit me since 96’, so if you just caught on with the blueprint3 you may wanna leave now and get a head start out the door”. This was classic arrogant Jay, he did songs they didn’t practice, really connected with the audience, and even took a request from someone in the front row. My dream that had been deferred from the first time he went on BP3 Tour had finally come true, proving that dreams deferred don’t dry up like a raisin in the sun or even explode, but that they can in fact come true!
