Thank You, Thank You, Thank You…You’re Far too Kind: Jay-Z Concert

March 9, 2010

What can I say; if you know me you know Jay-Z is my favorite rapper of all time. I could go on and on about why his music speaks to me, a Black girl from Omaha, NE of all places. I have been rockin’ with Jay since 96’ at the tender age of 11. At first it was the beats of his songs that drew me in but as I got older I listened to his words as well. The way he puts them together is amazing to me. To this day I can still listen to old Jay-Z songs and find a new nugget of genius to grab onto that I never realized before, like watching a movie over and over and finding a new joke or detail each time. To be able to go to this concert was a lifelong dream and something I got to check off my bucket list. I was super pumped the entire day; I couldn’t even concentrate at work.  I wanted everything to be perfect, outfit, make-up, hair, eve

Outfit, Check!

Hair and Make-up, Check!

After sitting through the opening act, Trey Songz, I could hardly contain myself in anticipation. Finally at about 9:00pm he opened up with Run this Town, I went wild, stood up and sang every single song. After that song went off he immediately brought out a diehard Roc-a-Fella fan favorite, Memphis Bleek. It was good to see him on tour with Jay, since we haven’t heard from him in so long.  Jay did a wide range of songs, his repertoire is so extensive I’m sure it’s difficult to come up with one 2 hour show but he did successfully. One thing I wasn’t a fan of was the Alicia Keys impersonator that came out during the Empire State of Mind performance; frankly I could’ve done without. Everyone screamed the heads off thinking Alicia Keys was there, but alas we were fooled, it was as if the entire crowd realized at the exact same time that they had been bamboozled. Although I didn’t appreciate the look alike, it was still true to Jay-Z form by putting someone else on. Can you imagine being an up and coming rapper or singer performing with one the greatest rappers that ever lived, epic!  In the middle of his set Young Jeezy performed for about 20 minutes and he was better than I thought he’d be so that was an added bonus.  The culminating moment for me was at the end when he says “This part of the show is for everyone that’s been rockin’ wit me since 96’, so if you just caught on with the blueprint3 you may wanna leave now and get a head start out the door”. This was classic arrogant Jay, he did songs they didn’t practice, really connected with the audience, and even took a request from someone in the front row. My dream that had been deferred from the first time he went on BP3 Tour had finally come true, proving that dreams deferred don’t dry up like a raisin in the sun or even explode, but that they can in fact come true!

Awesome Background, it really set the show off

My favorite part of the show!

Fefe’s Pisces Bash: The Little Things Count

March 7, 2010

When asked to plan a 26th birthday party for my good friend Fefe, I jumped at the chance. It was just the type of event and creative release I had been waiting for. After doing a consultation with Fefe on the type of party she wanted have I determined that the Helix was the best place for her party. Helix Hotel is perfect venue for the type of events I love and the true essence of what the event stylist is all about, haute without the haughty. Having visited the hotel on a previous site visit I knew that the bright colors and a fun atmosphere where exactly what she would be looking for. Like all Kimpton properties it has its own theme, which is “Your 15 Minutes of Fame”. It’s all about Hollywood Glam and having the general experience of whimsy and excitement. The hotel is beautifully adorned with any bright, vibrant color you can think of. The hallway leading to the sweat had bright green wall paper with portraits of interesting people on the walls. The room itself has the same amount of excitement from the moment you enter; you are greeted by beautiful greens, purples and oranges. Interesting art decorates the walls from pictures of flowers to Barbie and Ken in morning after wear. The hotel in general exudes sexiness, the perfect place for Fefe’s Pisces bash.

When entertaining guests at a party like this you always want to have some sort of activity to keep the guest entertained. You have to decide what type of party you want it to be, it could be formal, a dance party, or a game night etc. Fefe’s Pisces Bash was a game night it was a great way to keep people entertained and interacting with each other, not everyone knew each at the party. Also to assist in the lively atmosphere of the party, we had snacks, music, a full stocked bar complete with a bartender and a house “punch”. Little details like these are what make something like a simple house or suite party in this case, unique and gives your guests a little something extra special.

By the end of the night Fefe and her guests gave the party rave reviews, they loved the thought put into making the experience a great one, further proof that the little things matter. I was proud to have a hand in making Fefe’s party a success and I can’t wait to work for her again!
